What I’m loving—2 weeks

I consume a lot of media-some of it because it’s what I’m interested in, and some because of my job.

I’m going to leave out anything from my job and just tell you about the fun and generally interesting items.

Let me start by saying this: I am all about the library. The library is one of the most underrated resources we have…if you aren’t using your local library I’d love to know WHY? You pay taxes in your community and part of those tax funds go to ‘outfit’ the library—not just books, but also services (speakers, seminars, storytime reading for kids, maybe a book club—these are just SOME offered in my community). Most libraries also have a selection of movies, tv shows, and music—some can be found in both physical and digital formats.
Have I convinced you…Run to the library!

Lets start with what I’m watching:
Warehouse 13This show is such a fun mix of history, science fiction, action and humor. And since Netflix and Amazon doesn’t have this show included in their free, I went to the library and checked it out—all roads lead to the library.

The America’s Test Kitchen YouTube channelI mean, I’ve enjoyed the show for years-PBS is wonderful for kids and adults (a love for PBS rant might come another day) . Anyway, I’m always missing it’s standard timeslot on my local PBS channel. Now, they have been posting full episodes on their YouTube channel PLUS some great little 1-4 minute facts and tips—most by Dan Souza (there was an episode of The Sporkful Podcast where he talked about ice cream-not one of my favorites, but I’m always glad to hear him share his knowledge).

What I’m listening to:
I listen to a handful of podcasts everyday-you can see my list over on the right-this list is ones that have recently stuck out to me-as a little better than others- and also my book listening habits…I need to get back into music-got a suggestion?

#1152 Reboot Your Health—I had just been talking to another mom at MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) about this literally like 12 hours prior to hearing this. I swear Kristianna just gets me sometimes.

And #1173 Change Starts with Yes—Which just hit me like a ton of bricks…I’ve been coming way too much from a place of NO with my girls and my hubby lately.

Optimal Living Daily
He reads blogs…it sounds kinda lame, but somehow it’s just not.
#819: Chocolate Chip Waffles by Elle Sloboda with with Appalachian State University (Communication Course with Dr. Chris Patti)—This one was written by a college student. It was just a nice piece about simplicity.

#826: I Want to Punch Perfection in the Face by Courtney Carver of Be More With Less (Expectation & Freedom)— All I can say is…YEAH TAKE THAT PERFECTION!

NPR TED Radio Hour
Nudge—The portion about kids and how to interact with them just made SO much sense-nothing beyond common sense, but so nice to hear.

You might have noticed, I have been ROCKIN’ it on the book reading front-mostly because of my local library—there it is again—and audio books. I know I could use Audible and I don’t. Two reasons why…I already pay for the library and they have a selection of audio books I can get FOR FREE and two, I just want to listen to the book ONCE, I rarely need to go back and re-read books—non-fiction or fiction.
Beyond The Bright Sea By Lauren Wolk
I recently finished this book and thought I really enjoyed it…but the more I think about it, I keep finding holes in it and flaws in it’s main character. If you’ve read it, I’d love to know what you think. I did really enjoy the kind of omniscient character of Miss Maggie and would really like to read a follow-up all based on her (and Osh). This book was Crow’s story, but I feel like Miss Maggie and Osh both have a story-ones that would be better then Crow’s.

Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers
I don’t really know what to say about this book…I wanted to love it and I know the movie is loosely based on the book…but most of this book just felt like a semi-lucid acid trip. Maybe I should try it again, but…that’s OK. I didn’t really care that much about the characters to jump back into that. I’ll just wait for the movie reboot-which I am excited to see.

I did finish The Lunar Chronicles and I was pretty excited about that! It ended with Winter (although I did just checkout Stars Above—#4.5 in the 4 book series and yes, I did read out #3.5 Fairest). I was kinda happy with the ending, but I’m looking forward to Stars Above.

What am I reading now you ask? Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage another series and I JUST started it, but I am liking the characters so far.

OK, this is a really LONG post and I still need to create some art for it…so. Final thing I’m enjoying is one of those silly/fun kinda useless but interesting website-no; survey-no; test-no; I don’t know what to call it but who wouldn’t want to know what their name WOULD be if they were born recently.
I heard about it on the podcast Happier by Gretchen Rubin—not one of my favorite podcasts.

That’s where I’m going to end this post today.
But I’d like to tell you based on the above link, my name would be Natalie, what would yours be?

Tell me about it!
